How does Invisalign work?
When you come in for an Invisalign® treatment plan at Dental Scotland practices, there are two stages – a
free consultation and treatment:
Your dentist will first assess your teeth to establish if an Invisalign® teeth straightening treatment is
right for you. We take a high-tech computerised 3D image of your mouth and teeth. We will be able to show
you a simulated evolution and timeline of your straightening plan together with the anticipated end
Every two weeks, you receive a new set of Invisalign® clear aligners to wear over your teeth all day
except for when you are eating. Wearing the aligners progressively moves your teeth to the desired
Every 4 – 6 weeks we will plan an appointment to review the progress of your treatment at the practice.
Depending on your individual needs, your Invisalign® treatment may last from 3 to 18 months.
As only gentle pressure is required to move or straighten teeth, the majority of patients experience no
more than slight discomfort during the treatment. At the end of your treatment, a retention appliance may
be required in order to prevent teeth from returning to their original position.
